Specimen collection

Detection of cancer cells that have entered the bloodstream, or Circulating Tumor Cells (CTCs), is a technique used for early-stage cancer screening. This technique utilizes cancer-specific antibodies in combination with semiconductor-based technology and specialized laboratory instrumentation to enable precise identification and analysis.

Equipment for Blood Collection

  1. Scalpvein size 22 g
  2. Holder
  3. Blue connector
  4. Vacuum blood collection tube, Clot activator tube (red cap, plastic tube)
  5. Vacuum blood collection tube, ACD tube (yellow cap, glass tube – handle with care)
  6. Alcohol pad
  7. Sterile dry cotton
  8. Micropore

Blood Collection Procedure

Write the client’s full name on the blood collection tube correctly. Prepare the equipment by assembling the holder, blue connector, and Scalpvein together.

Clean the skin at the puncture site with an alcohol pad and allow it to dry.

Draw blood by using a 22G Scalpvein

Discard the first 2 ml of blood to avoid contamination; (this can be collected into the prepared red-cap tube).
*If additional tests are required, collect the blood according to the specified order of draw.

The ACD tube (yellow cap) must be collected last, and the cap must not be opened.

Gently invert the tube 8–10 times to mix the blood with the anticoagulant.

Sample shipment

Wrap the blood collection tubes carefully with bubble wrap.

Place the blood collection tube together with the accompanying documents (sealed separately in a zip-lock bag) into the packaging box.

Place the packaging box into the foam container with ice packs to maintain temperature, together with a data logger to record temperature information.
(The blood sample must not come into direct contact with the ice packs or ice, as this may cause hemolysis of red blood cells.)

Seal the box securely and ship the blood sample immediately.
*If immediate shipment is not possible, the blood sample may be refrigerated at 2–8 °C for up to 1 day.

Test Result Notification

  • Test results will be available within 15 days after the laboratory receives the sample, excluding weekends and public holidays.
  • Results will be sent to the client via the specified communication method.
